Understand this collection

Maths starts before counting

Functional Maths begins with visual discrimination and real-object concepts rather than abstract sums. Learners can respond by pointing, matching, circling or placing a card, then progress toward number and money skills.

Suitable for: Learners with autism, Down Syndrome, ADHD, intellectual disability, developmental delay, and non-verbal or AAC users—placed by current functional ability rather than age.

  • Matching, sorting and same/different
  • Colours, shapes and visual discrimination
  • Quantity readiness and full/empty
  • Number and money progression for daily life
01

How to choose a subject

Start with the skill used most in daily life: routines and independence, practical maths, picture-based English, or social communication. A learner can use more than one subject at the same time.

02

How to choose a level

Choose by functional ability—not age, school class or diagnosis. Begin where the learner can respond successfully with pointing, matching, circling, placing a card, speech or AAC.
